Fishing and sailing in the Bahamas feels different from anywhere else. I’ve spent countless days chasing bonefish along the flats near Andros Island , it’s quiet, challenging, and unlike any fishing back home.

And sailing? Man, the way the wind catches the sails in the Exumas is something you have to feel yourself. The water’s so clear, you can actually see schools of fish swimming beneath your boat. One time, I hopped off to snorkel near Shroud Cay and ended up swimming with a stingray , talk about a break from the swell.

If you plan to fish, think about hiring a local guide, especially if you want to catch wahoo or snapper around Bimini. They know the tides and secret spots. Plus, don’t forget your sunscreen and snap a photo of your catch before letting it go. Sailing-wise, it’s best from November through May when the trade winds settle in. Last tip? Watch the weather carefully. The Bahamas can turn in a heartbeat if a front moves through, so check with the marina or your captain daily.
