Elbow Cay
Bahamas
Elbow Cay, an 'Abaconian' island, is best known for its candy-striped lighthouse and the sweet settlement known as Home Town.
Those who've been lucky enough to visit can attest to the island's friendliness, character, and pastel-coloured cottages. It would be a shame to miss the famous Tahiti Beach - a pristine stretch located on the southern tip of the island, often featuring exquisite sand bars at low tide - or to pass up a visit to Hope Town - a local hotspot known for its quaint appeal.
Looking out onto a harbour dotted with sailboats, Hope Town's multitude of activities and places of interest promise a remarkable stay. Though it lacks major casinos and nightclubs, an after-hours drink and dance can always be found at one of the local dining establishments. Vacation days can be planned around climbing the 101-step staircase hidden inside the historical lighthouse or being on the receiving end of a soothing massage treatment, and everything in between.
Like many of the Abaco cays, this island has a year-round population of a few hundred people, so it's perfect for quiet getaways. There is regular ferry service to Elbow Cay from Marsh Harbour and golf carts and bicycles are the popular modes of transport, once on the island.
