Hope Great House
Bahamas
Once the abode of a loyalist family who left the United States during the American War of Independence; Hope Great House stands amid the wild and beautiful greenery of Acklins ready to welcome visitors in the same manner it did, more than two centuries ago.
Much of the old plantation's great house still stands, along with the remnants of the homeowner's kitchen. Surrounded by a plethora of orchids, aloe plants, and other natural beauties, the site is a wonderful and unique escape for hiking or nature enthusiasts.
The house sits on a 3.6 acre property on the west coast of Crooked Island, one mile northeast of Landrail Point. A stone's throw away from the plantation house is the ruin of an old fort that was sacked by pirates in 1812.
Hope Great House is now a part of the Bahamas' national park system and managed by the Bahamas National Trust.
