Hillside House
Bahamas
Hillside House a quaint colonial style building packed is with amazing art work and historical content. Built in the 1800s the Hillside House building is filled with character, not to mention incredible artwork by Antonius Roberts.
Roberts is a sculptor and is known for his work on organic and recycled mediums, like wood and brick. Inspired by Bahamian and African heritage, many of Roberts' pieces reflect and celebrate Bahamian ancestry. One example is found in the Sacred Space at Clifton Heritage Park, where Roberts has transformed the leftover trunks of Casuarina trees into a stunning group of feminine figures representing the slave women who once resided and worked in the area.
Roberts' rejuvenating magic doesn't stop with just artwork; in 2010, he decided to rescue Hillside House from dilapidation and fire damage. His studio which opened in 2012, welcomes visitors between 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., six days a week.
