Conception Island

Bahamas

Cays and Settlements

Conception Island is one of those areas in the Bahamas where the country's unspoilt beauty is on full display for anyone who wishes to make the effort to venture to this secluded spot.

This uninhabited island is an important rookery for nesting seabirds and hatching site for green turtles.

It is a protected area managed by the Bahamas National Trust. The island is actually the top of a platform that rises out of the deep ocean 15 miles east of Long Island. Conception Island features miles of pink sand beaches and sandstone cliffs. Like many of the areas around Rum Cay, Conception Island offers spectacular diving opportunities.

Very little is known about the history of the island, but the few ruins that exist indicate that people once settled there as far back as the early 1900's.
