Bat Cave
Bahamas
Inland from the settlement of Gordon on Crooked Island is a mysterious world of domed chambers and high tunnels that house a large family of brown bats. The limestone in the Bat Cave is perfect for cave formation and thus makes a suitable home for its furry tenants.
The Bahamas is home to a total of 11 species of bat, but no need to worry, you won't have to concern yourself with protecting your neck around these creatures. Bahamian bats have no interest in humans. Their diet consist of insects, fruit, nectar, and small fish.
The large pine trees above the cave provides a suitable habitat where the bats can find food and protection from predators like owls.
In addition to bats you will find swarms of land crabs scurrying across the floor of the cave. The Bahamas has four species of land crab, two of them white land crab and the black crab are an important part of many indigenous Bahamian dishes.
