Italian food in the Bahamas is a bit of a hidden comfort. It’s not all about seafood and conch, you know? When I want that kind of meal, I usually head over to places like Luciano’s on Bay Street in Nassau. They have great homemade gnocchi, and their tiramisu feels like it was made by someone’s nonna.

And don’t overlook the smaller, out-of-the-way restaurants in Cable Beach. Some of them bring real Italian family recipes here but keep it relaxed and simple. One thing I’ve learned is that Italian food pairs surprisingly well with the local Bahamian flavors,try the pasta with a touch of their pepper sauce for a little kick. Just a heads up, many places don’t open late, so hit them up early, especially if you want a fresh-baked pizza and a bottle of good wine.

If you’re visiting during the cooler dry season between December and April, sit outside where you can watch the ocean breeze and the sunset while you savor your meal. Trust me, it makes a carbonara taste even better.
