Tilloo Cay
Bahamas
Tilloo Cay, an island of modest size has lots to offer its visitors. Located just south of Elbow Cay, Tiloo Cay sits in the line of islands speckling the sea around Abaco.
Separated from Elbow Cay by a mere 10-minute boat ride, Tilloo Cay visitors can have all the amenities of nearby Hope Town with more seclusion and privacy. Popular for day trips, the island is home to several beaches, including the aptly named Tilloo Beach - a site known for its cool waters in summer and family-friendly appeal; the shallow waters make wading with youngsters an enjoyable activity. Not far from Tilloo Bank, the beach makes for the perfect picnic locale; after lunch, boaters can head down to the bank's deeper waters for water sports.
The cay also features the Tilloo Cay Nature Reserve, one of The Bahamas' national parks. Looking out onto the Atlantic Ocean, the reserve consists of 11 acres of shoreline; it is a valued respite for local birds, particularly Tropic Birds.
For those staying overnight, accommodation on the island comes in the form of self-catering rentals, and most people get around by foot, bicycle, or golf cart. A boat rental is recommended to access nearby Elbow Cay and other islands.
