Castle Island Lighthouse
Bahamas
Once upon a time, not so long ago, Castle Island was used by pirates as a launching pad for their attacks on ships traveling through the nearby Crooked Island Passage.
Today ships that travel through the passage take comfort at the sight of the Castle Island Lighthouse that now dominates the island.
If you're interested in snorkeling or scuba divingwhile visiting Crooked Island, there are a number of reefs to explore. On the western side you'll find the wreck of a freighter from Belize that ran aground quite a few years ago and now sits in 12 feet of water.
A number of birds make their home among the rocks of Castle Island so it's an ideal stop for bird-watchers. You'll need a boat to get to this lonely outpost but once you do your activities will only be limited by your imagination.
