Description

Some of the most fascinating historical sites in the Bahamas exist outside of the cities, on this tour you will be able to discover how Freeport became what it is today, and how it was before the investors came. This tour is a farm tour of OL’ Freetown where the first set of freed slaves lived. On this captivating 4-hour tour, you will discover the history and culture of the Bahamas and its role in the abolition of slavery. Start the day off with a pick-up at your cruise port or hotel in Freeport, and embark on a short 1-hour guided tour of the city, learning about the origins of the city and the events that gave Freeport its name. See OL’ Freetown Farm, which still sits on property that the slaves once owned and is now a modern farm with all different types of animals from around the Bahama Islands. As you take the 1 to 1.5 hour tour at the farm you will see different types of chickens, hens, roosters, turkey, rabbits, guinea pig, pigs, goats, sheep, donkeys, horses, miniature horse, and a peacock just to name a few. Talk with the people and get to know the history of why they do what they do. You will then be transferred to Junkanoo Beach for 1 hour where you can, sunbathe, stroll along the beach, dip into the Atlantic waters, grab a refreshment, or enjoy a traditional Bahamian lunch, before heading back to your hotel or cruise port.
